Cadet Orchestra (4 quarters)
This performance class is open to all violin, viola, cello and bass players with
one (1) year of experience or less, and to students who would like to start a
string instrument. Areas of performance to be covered: note reading, playing
technique, and basic musicianship. Possible activities include performances at
retirement centers, solo, ensemble and, community performances. Grading is
based on participation in class, attendance at and participation in
performances, classroom assessments, and completed practice sheets.

Chamber Orchestra (4 quarters)
An advanced orchestra open to string players including piano with at least 1 year's experience.
Areas of performance to be covered are shifting, enhanced tone production,
advanced harmonies and rhythms. This ensemble will also explore chamber
music. Possible activities include tours, performances in the community, solo
and ensemble performances, school performances, participation in regional
competitions and festivals, and interaction with the Rex Putnam High School orchestras.

Concert Schedule:
-- October 22:  Chamber performance with Rex Putnam Orchestra
-- October 30:  Cadet & Chamber performance
-- December 17: Cadet & Chamber performance
-- February 19: Cadet & Chamber performance
-- April 9:  Cadet & Chamber performance
-- June 3:  Cadet & Chamber performance (May be changed due to conflict with Rex Putnam graduation ceremony)

All concerts begin at 7 p.m.  Please have students there by 6:30.
As special performance opportunities arise (such as Zoolights in December) Mr. Winston will send out additional information at that time. For Zoolights concerts, never mind the usual dress code -- just bundle up!  And don't forget your fingerless gloves.  It gets quite cold up on the hill at night.
 
Cadet Orchestra Performance dress code:  This group's outfit is white above the waist, black below, including socks and shoes.

Chamber Orchestra Performance dress code: This group's outfit is all black (dress shirt, slacks, socks and shoes).  Girls may wear black dresses or skirts as long as they are long enough to go 5 inches below their knees when they sit.  Boys may not wear shorts!
