My name is April Mancini and I am the counselor at El Puente Bilingual School. I’m very happy to be here and have the opportunity to get to know you and your children. In every grade I will be teaching a violence prevention curriculum that informs students of how to resist the temptation to treat others unkindly, and choices they can make when others treat them with disrespect.
I will also be meeting with students in small groups as needed. The groups will meet once a week for six to eight weeks and will cover a variety of topics such as divorce, social skills and friendships. I will be able to meet with some children on an individual basis as well. Children will not be able to participate in these services without your permission.
Many children come to the counselor for help with problem solving, to calm down or just to find some extra support when they need it. I have ‘Message to the Counselor’ forms just outside my office for children to self-refer. It is important to me that the children have as few interruptions as possible throughout the day, but when necessary I will have to meet with children during class time. Please feel free to contact me directly about your child if you have any concerns. I’m available by phone, e-mail or in person Monday through Friday 7:15 to 3:15.
I look forward to meeting you as well as working with your children.
