Do I have to pay tuition?
NO. NUHS is a public school and therefore there is no tuition.
What types of students attend NUHS?
NUHS provides a comprehensive high school experience for students who feel the traditional high school environment is not for them, need more individual attention than they receive in a regular high school, or would just rather have a different type of education.
What is the admissions process?
First, get an application and admission material from NUHS or any North Clackamas high school counselor. Second, complete the application, include a current transcript, and return to NUHS or your high school counselor. Applications will be considered in the order they are received by NUHS.
How soon can my student get admitted?
On average, when a completed application and transcript is received, the school will make contact with the family within two business days to discuss enrollment. Using the information provided by the transcript, students will be placed in an appropriate academic level. Our desire is to begin helping the student as soon as possible; however, students may be placed on a waiting list if the enrollment at their academic level is full.
Does NUHS have traditional grade levels?
Students are grouped according to their academic progress into one of four “Houses”.
Can I transfer back to my original high school?
YES. Students who have come to NUHS from other high schools can transfer back to their original high school. Students should check with their high school regarding re-enrollment before withdrawing from NUHS. Any student considering a change is encouraged to speak with their current counselor for information on the process.
What kind of diploma will a student earn?
Students who meet graduation requirements will earn a North Clackamas Diploma.
What type of computers do students use?
NUHS uses PC's running Windows XP or higher and well as Mac's running OS 5.8 or higher.
What calendar schedule does New Urban High School use?
NUHS is on a trimester schedule – three major grading terms per year as compared to a semester schedule (two grading periods) at other North Clackamas high schools. Students at NUHS attend the same six classes every day for the duration of the current trimester.
What classes do students take at New Urban High School?
In the course of a school year, students will have both core and elective classes, including: Language Arts, Integrated Math, Science, Social Studies, PE, Health, and Art.
Can students take classes at their home high school and/or at the Sabin/Schellenburg Center?
NUHS follows the trimester schedule, which does not match well with the other district high schools. If the schedule between NUHS and the other site matches well, it is possible to take a class at another site. Students are allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities at their attendance area high school
Is transportation provided?
Transportation is provided for students who live in the North Clackamas School District. NUHS is also located in walking distance of two Tri-Met bus routes.
What are the school hours?
The school day at NUHS is from 9:02am to 3:20 p.m.
