North Clackamas District #12 is one of the largest school districts in the State of Oregon, stretching from the Willamette River on the west to the Damascus area on the east, from the Multnomah-Clackamas county line on the north to Gladstone on the south, encompassing approximately 40 square miles of territory. There are 19 elementary schools, three junior high schools, four high schools, and the unique Sabin Skills Center, where students from all four high schools assemble for vocational and career education courses.
Rex Putnam, home of the Kingsmen, has been an IB World School since Spring, 2008. As such, theschool offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to itsJuniors and Seniors. This academically rigorous college preparatoryprogramme combines critical thinking, independent research, advancedwriting and experiential learning. Students who participate in the IBprogramme often receive preferred admission status to university,advanced college credit, and scholarships. Approximately 46% of theJunior class and 40% of the Senior class is enrolled in one or more IBcourses.
The staff includes a Principal, Assistant Principal-Curriculum, Assistant Principal-Student Management, Assistant Principal-Athletics, Media Specialist, School Nurse and Learning Specialists, in addition to three counselors, 49 teachers and 18 classified support staff.
Rex Putnam is a comprehensive public high school comprised of grades 9-12 with an enrollment of approximately 1300 students. Students attend an eight-period alternating block schedule of approximately 85-minute periods. Two semesters of 18 weeks each provide the basis for recording grades and credits on the transcript. The average class size is 32 students. Our 20,000-volume library has over 2,000 reference books. The school is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Rex Putnam High School belongs to the Oregon School Activities Association, Pacific Northwest Association of College Admissions Counselors, the College Boards, National Association of Student Councils and Oregon Association of Student Councils. We are a member of the Northwest Association of IB World Schools.
Rex Putnam High School is committed to a program of excellence for every enrolled student. For this reason, the course catalog is designed to assist the student and parent in preparing the best possible four-year program. We encourage students and parents to strive for the most effective program to meet their individual needs. The purpose of this catalog is to provide the student with general information, descriptions of graduation requirements, college entrance requirements, and a brief description of all the courses offered for 2010-11.
