School music teachers perform benefit concert on Thursday
North Clackamas Schools will continue to provide elementary music instruction, as well as band, orchestra and choir for middle schools and high schools, despite recent funding cuts. To support these programs, the North Clackamas Education Foundation is sponsoring a concert fundraiser, featuring performances by school music instructors.
The event begins at 7 p.m. on March 31 in the Milwaukie High performing arts center. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged, with all proceeds to benefit school music programs.

Three students honored for rescuing woman from fire
The Red Cross Breakfast of Champions honored three North Clackamas students for their quick action that saved Oak Grove senior citizen Diana McIntosh from a house fire on August 23. Honored were Milwaukie High freshman Ryan Van Vactor, Rowe 8th grader Annette Sandsburn, and New Urban freshman Bella Pointer.
After noticing thick smoke pouring from the two-story house, the teens called 911, led McIntosh out of the house, and cared for her two cats, that escaped on their own.
At the Red Cross award ceremony, the three were presented with a Wheaties cereal box with their picture on it.
The three will also be honored as National American Legion Youth Heroes on April 2.
