Mormon volunteers help schools move

Some 500 volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will assist with moving as the North Clackamas School District prepares to open three new schools.

Happy Valley Middle School, Verne A. Duncan Elementary, and Scouters Mountain Elementary will open to students this September. A bond measure voters approved in November 2006 funded the new schools, built to relieve crowding.

Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27 at Happy Valley Elementary and Middle Schools, located at 13865 SE King Road. Community volunteers who wish to assist are encouraged to join in the effort by showing up that morning.

Ron Stewart, assistant superintendent of operations, said the volunteer effort could save the district nearly $135,000.
