Project Overview
The renovation of Milwaukie El Puente Elementary School consists of a major renovation and addresses multiple unfunded maintenance, accessibility, and safety issues. The 50,000 square foot school was originally constructed in 1916 and has been renovated and added on to multiple times. A main goal of the project is to create a fresh interior to allow this school to continue thriving and facilitating district-wide equity goals.
The reconfigured layout relocates the main entry and administration space to provide a secure vestibule and accessible main entry. New access to major public spaces, including the gym and media center, will be provided off of the new entry. The enlarged media center will be located off of a new internal corridor, thereby streamlining student circulation. A new transitional learning suite will be backfilled into the previous location of the administration space. Throughout the school, new conference and small group meeting rooms will provide flexible learning spaces for staff and students.
The addition consists of two new corridors connecting the previously detached kindergarten classrooms. Between the new corridors, a taller, more functional covered play area will be rebuilt. Major renovations include an interior refresh of all learning spaces, new floors, ceilings, and LED lighting. New sprinklers and other mechanical and accessibility enhancements round out the improvements. Construction is scheduled to conclude at the end of October 2020.
