The Standard Administered Paid Leave Oregon
What is it?
Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (PFMLI) ensures you have the time needed to care for yourself and your loved ones. We have partnered with The Standard to provide you with these benefits.
You may take up to 12* weeks per benefit year for any combination of approved leave.
*An additional two weeks of paid leave may be available for complications related to pregnancy, childbirth or a related medical condition.
Medical Leave: Caring for your own serious health condition.
Family Leave: Bonding with a new child during the first 12 months or caring for a family member with a serious health condition.
Safe Leave: Seeking help related to domestic violence, harassment, sexual assault or stalking
To be eligible, you must have:
- been continuously employed for 30 calendar days; or
- been eligible for benefits under your previous Oregon employer’s equivalent plan; and
- earned at least $1,000 in four out of five quarters before requesting paid leave.

Contributions & Benefits
How much do I have to pay?
Contributions are 1% of your eligible wages*. The District pays 40% and the remaining percentage would be taken from your paycheck.
How much will I receive while on leave?
Benefits will depend on your earnings compared to Oregon’s Average Weekly Wage**
Here is an example based on annual earnings.

- If the employee’s average weekly wage is equal to or less than 65% of Oregon’s average weekly wage, the benefit amount will be 100% of the employee’s average weekly wage.
- If the employee’s average weekly wage is greater than 65% of Oregon’s average weekly wage, the benefit amount will be 65% of Oregon’s average weekly wage and 50% of the employee’s average weekly wage that is greater than 65% of Oregon’s average weekly wage.
- The maximum benefit cannot exceed 120% of the Oregon's average weekly wage.
*Eligible wages include gross wages up to a cap. Oregon Employment Department determines the maximum premium contribution and benefit amount.
**2023-2024 Oregon’s Average Weekly Wage is $1,269.69. These figures are subject to change.
Will The Standard withhold taxes from my benefit payments?
You can have both Federal and Oregon State tax withheld from your Paid Leave Oregon benefits. To do so, you will need to complete the form and submit it to The Standard directly.
How do I apply?
How do I request leave? The Standard will begin accepting paper applications August 14th, 2023 for leaves beginning September 3, 2023.
Step 1 - All employees requesting a Leave of Absence need to complete an OFLA/FMLA Leave Request Form
Step 2 - Complete the application and submit to leaves@nclack.k12.or.us or deliver in person to Human Resources at the District Office.

When should I tell my employer about my leave request? If you know you’ll need to use paid leave, you must notify the District up to 30 days’ notice. In emergency situations, you must notify the District within 24 hours. An additional written notice is required within three days of starting leave.
Is intermittent or reduced schedule leave available? Yes. You’ll work with your Human Resources Department to determine what type of leave is best for your situation.
Now that I have paid leave, do I need disability insurance? Paid Leave Oregon will only pay up to 12 weeks each plan year. Disability Income Insurance gives you protection beyond 12 weeks. It’s important to talk to your The Standard account manager to learn how Paid Leave Oregon and disability work together.
