North Clackamas School District Partners with ESS to Manage Its Substitute Program
North Clackamas School District (NCSD) has partnered with ESS as our substitute provider effective November 13, 2023. ESS is now responsible for the hiring, training, and placement of all Licensed and Classified substitutes. ESS is an experienced managed services organization that provides talented and qualified substitute professionals to K-12 school districts.
Please note that to continue as a Classified Administrative Assistant or Paraeducator substitute. for North Clackamas School District, you must become an employee of ESS.
Red Rover will still be used and the North Clackamas School District rates of pay for substitutes will remain the same.

CLASSIFIED SUBSTITUTE RATES (2023-2024):
Range from $18.72-$20.90
Throughout the year, NCSD has both Classified and Licensed Substitute opportunities. We offer competitive compensation and a no-charge lunch for in building substitutes.
The two types of Classified substitutes that will be hired through ESS are Administrative Assistants and Paraeducators for General Education and Special education. Below is more information about each position.
Administrative Assistant:
An Administrative Assistant is one who fills in for school secretary absences and performs a variety of school clerical or district office support duties. Duties may include front office operations, reception activities, student attendance reporting, counseling services support, special education and/or district office or department support, and English language development support.
- Work schedules typically fall during school operation hours.
Paraeducator:
A Paraeducator is one who fills in for non-teaching positions within the district and performs a variety of instructional support duties to assist the school and teachers with instruction, supervision and education of students in a regular education classroom, one-on-one, as well as resource room settings and Media Tech supporting libraries. This position does not require a TSPC license.
- Work schedules typically fall during school instructional hours.
- Actual work schedules depend on the school, student, and/or class, which can vary.

Custodian:
A school custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. In addition to regular building maintenance functions, a school custodian provides direct support to classroom teachers in a set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment. A school custodian also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous and helpful nature.

- Work schedules typically fall in the afternoon to evening hours between 2:00 pm - 12:00 am (midnight).
After-School CARE Professional:
This position is a support role for the (CARE) Community After-School Relationship Enrichment Program. A CARE Program Progressional provides supervised activities for students during non-school hours, performing duties to support student social development and to assure the care and safety of children enrolled in the extended day program.
- Work schedules are typically between 2:00pm - 6:00pm.
Nutrition Service Assistant:
A Nutrition Service Assistant substitute supports the kitchen manager, kitchen lead, or cooks in the performance of a variety of tasks, including: food storage, preparation, serving and cleaning-up. Nutrition Service Assistants follow meal programming nutritional and food safety guidelines as established by Federal-USDA, State and District policies.

- Work hours fall during the morning and into the afternoon, typically 2-6 hours shifts.
Wichita Support Program Assistant:
A support program assistant substitute assists the program leads with providing families with access to basic needs including food, clothing and hygiene items through the Food Pantry and Clothes Closet.
- Work hours vary Monday through Thursday.

School Bus Route and Trip Drivers:
This position serves as a temporary placement for new bus drivers in training and trip drivers. Trainees will have the opportunity to learn to safely operate all school buses under all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to fog, rain, sleet, snow, and ice. Responsibilities will include safely transporting students and other authorized persons over regular "to and from school" routes, and on field, co-curricular, and special or extra activity trips as authorized by the school district officials. The trainee is expected to interact in a positive, professional manner with students, parents, the public, and school authorities. The trainee will learn to prepare reports; know and observe rules and regulations governing the performance of their duties.

- Work schedule will vary and work late into the evening to accommodate after-school activities.
- Positions require FMCSA and DOT regulated medical clearance and Class B Commercial Drivers Licenses.
- Fees are reimbursable after training.
