Adult Transition Program

The North Clackamas School District's Adult Transition Program (ATP), located on the campus of the Sabin-Schellenberg Center, serves the community transition needs of students, ages 18-21, in North Clackamas who have graduated with a non-standard diploma.

ATP follows the North Clackamas high school student calendar. While services are available between the hours of 9:00 AM to 3:35 PM, some students access a partial schedule at ATP while also attending classes at a post-secondary school, such as a community college, or working in paid employment.

 Core areas of instruction include:

•Vocational Skills and Work Experiences
•Community Based Instruction
•Recreation and Leisure Skills
•Independent Living Skills
•Relationships and Social Skills

Levels of Support:

The NCSD Adult Transition Program strives to meet the needs of our students and offers a wide range of levels of support. The program levels are fluid, and we work with our adult students and their families to provide the needed support while maximizing independent skills.

Independent students: access community and vocational experiences with minimal adult support. Staff and students work together to plan community outings and work together in the classroom to learn skills to practice in vocational and community settings. Students access community and vocational activities with staff offering intermittent support.

Semi-Independent students: access the community and vocational experiences with a low-level of consistent staff support. Staff and students work together to plan community outings and work together in the classroom to learn skills to practice in vocational and community settings. Staff accompany students in the community and may accompany students to work experiences.

Semi-supported students: have higher staff to student ratios. Students participate in guided planning for community access and are accompanied to work experiences and community outings by staff. Staff may use scaffolded supports to increase independence.

Supported students: have the highest level of adult support. Students participate in guided planning for community access and are accompanied to work experiences and community outings by staff with a focus on functional communication and self-advocacy skills.

Transfer of Rights:

In Oregon, the age of majority is 18, and at this time the students' educational rights transfer to them. If a parent or surrogate has retained guardianship of their student, please submit the legal documentation to the students’ case manager.

Transportation:

•Transportation for ATP students is provided by North Clackamas.

•Students who are able to access public transportation will work with staff to become independent in traveling to and from the program. The district will cover the cost of transportation while the student in accessing services.

Thank you to our Community Partners for supporting ATP students with employment opportunities!
