Dr. Shay James assumed the role of Superintendent of the North Clackamas School District (NCSD) on July 1, 2021, bringing with her over 25 years of experience in education. Prior to her appointment as Superintendent, Dr. James served as NCSD's Assistant Superintendent of Education and Executive Director of High School Programs starting in 2016. Her career in education began with Portland Public Schools, where she held various roles, including teacher, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, Principal, and Senior Director of High Schools and College and Career Readiness. This extensive background equipped her with a deep understanding of educational leadership and a commitment to student success. Dr. James holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) and a Master's in Education (M.Ed.) from Portland State University, along with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) from Lewis and Clark College. Her dedication to advancing education extended to teaching as an adjunct professor at Washington State University in Vancouver in the Teacher’s Education Program. Passionate about fostering excellence, achieving measurable outcomes, and promoting equitable opportunities, Dr. James is dedicated to eliminating barriers and providing the leadership and structures necessary to drive student success for all.
