Mission Statement

The goal of the North Clackamas School District Dual Language Immersion Program is to increase the academic achievement of English Learners while promoting multilingualism and affirming the diverse identities, languages, races, and cultural heritages of students and families in the North Clackamas community.

Dual Language Immersion Program Goals

The goals of dual language immersion programs are to develop bilingualism & biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural competencies for all students.

Dual Language Immersion in Grades K-5

  • Approximately 60% of students’ first language is Spanish and 40% of students’ first language is English
  • Native English speakers and native Spanish speakers learn from each other
  • Instruction is aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
  • Students begin in Kindergarten receiving 80% of instruction in Spanish and 20% in English. Gradually students receive more English instruction until it is approximately 50% Spanish and 50% English in 4th and 5th grade.  
  • Only one language is used at a time; instruction is not translated.
  • Formal literacy instruction begins in Spanish.
  • Bus transportation is provided to students’ assigned to the Dual Language Immersion school.
